Cambria Windows & Doors: The Houston Owner’s Guide
If you have a Cambria window or door with a failing sash, roller, weather seal, or hinge, we can source the replacement part and install it for a total price of $180 to $650 in most Houston homes, depending on the part and how long the repair takes. That is parts plus labor, written down before we start so nothing grows after the crew arrives. Most owners discover the failure the same way: a window that suddenly drags in the frame on a humid July morning, a patio door that no longer closes flush against the seal, or a handle that spins without engaging the lock. In Meyerland and Bellaire, we see this most after the spring rain stretch, when aluminum tracks pick up grit and every opening cycle grinds it a little deeper.
We are an independent remodeling contractor in Houston, not a Cambria-owned service, and we carry and install Cambria-compatible hardware because our kitchen and bath projects use Cambria quartz and the surrounding windows and doors need to work as well as the surfaces do. The parts we match are sized to the original extrusion, not generic hardware from a big-box aisle, because a window lock that is 3 millimeters off will never seat the way the original did.
Which Cambria Models This Applies To

Cambria does not manufacture windows or doors as a standalone line. Cambria is a quartz surface brand, and when Houston homeowners talk about “Cambria windows and doors,” they are almost always describing windows and doors adjacent to a Cambria countertop installation, or the hardware and framing on cabinetry and built-in units that partners like KraftMaid and Wellborn supply around Cambria surfaces. That matters because the failure points are usually in the cabinetry glazing, sliding door tracks, or window sashes installed as part of a remodel, not in a Cambria-branded extrusion.
The practical step is identifying the hardware by measurement and marking rather than by brand sticker. Look for a stamp on the hinge leaf, the roller housing, or the sash lock. Most residential windows in Houston neighborhoods like West University or Katy use sash balances between 17 and 29 inches, and hidden-tilt latches are specific to the track profile. We measure the old part against the opening before ordering, because a sash balance that is half an inch too short will hold the window up for a month and then let it drop. For aftermarket equivalents, we only use parts that match the original extrusion depth and lock spacing. Some cheaper aftermarket rollers fit the track but not the frame shoulder, and that is the difference between a door that rolls for two years and one that wobbles by Thanksgiving.

Signs Your Cambria Windows & Doors Is Failing
- The window drags or catches midway up the track. The culprit is usually grit sitting inside the track channel, which grinds against the roller or the balance shoe and wears a flat spot into it. Once that flat spot starts, the drag gets worse every week.
- The door or window no longer seals against the frame at one corner. The weather seal has compressed permanently, often on the southwest side of the house where Houston sun bakes the seal material all afternoon. Air leaks and a higher July cooling bill are the first signs.
- The lock spins or the handle moves without engaging. The gear teeth inside the lock housing have stripped, most often because the door or window sat slightly misaligned and every close added shear force to the mechanism.
- You hear a soft grinding sound when opening or closing. A roller bearing has lost its seals, and fine Houston dust has worked into the bearings. Lubricant won’t fix it once the bearing surface is pitted.
- Condensation between the glass panes. The insulated glazing unit has lost its gas fill and seal, and that is a full sash or door insert replacement in most cases, not a hardware swap.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For Houston homeowners, a single hardware replacement on a window or door runs $180 to $650 installed. A full window replacement, when the sash framing or glazing unit has failed beyond a hardware fix, runs $4,500 to $15,000 for the project scope we take on. The hardware cost itself is usually $40 to $200 for quality Cambria-compatible parts, and the rest is the labor to remove the old part without damaging the surrounding Cambria surface, clean the track, seat the new part, and adjust the alignment so the window or door closes square.
Here is the honest spread:
- Roller or hinge replacement on a sliding door: $180 to $350 installed
- Sash balance or pivot bar replacement on a double-hung window: $160 to $300 installed
- Sash lock or handle set replacement: $120 to $240 installed
- Weather seal replacement along a door or window run: $140 to $280 installed
- Full window replacement project: $4,500 to $15,000
Every replacement comes with the written price before work starts and the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the part fails or the window drags again within the year, we make it right at no additional cost. We name the part we are installing, by brand and part number, on the written scope.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check whether the track is clogged with grit, whether the sash is sitting level in the frame, and whether visible screws on the hinge or handle have backed out. Those checks cost nothing and tell you whether the problem is maintenance or a genuinely worn part. What you should not attempt is removing a sash balance or a tensioned window spring. The spring inside a sash balance is under enough tension to remove a fingertip, and a Houston homeowner last year had the exact injury when the balance slipped while he was prying the sash out. Door rollers are less dangerous but still frustrating: the door has to come out of the frame, and a 60-pound glass panel leans fast when it is only half-supported.
If the part is a roller, balance, or lock, call (254) 272-5240. We will come out, measure the part, and give you the written price before any work starts. If it turns out to be a five-minute track cleaning instead, we will tell you that and not charge you for a part you do not need.
FAQs

Rollers and balances in Houston typically last 7 to 12 years, with the southwest side of the house wearing out fastest because of afternoon heat and UV exposure on seals and plastic pivot shoes. A part in a shaded north-facing window on the same house may go 15 years or more.
Most hardware is not worth repairing, because the cost of drilling out and rebuilding a roller housing or re-springing a balance exceeds the cost of a quality new part. What is worth doing is cleaning and realigning the track first, which sometimes resolves the drag without a part purchase at all. Call (254) 272-5240 and we will diagnose it honestly.
A single roller, lock, or balance replacement takes 30 to 90 minutes on site once the part is in hand. If the part needs to be ordered to match the extrusion size, expect 3 to 7 days for the order and then one visit to install it.
We keep a truck stock of the most common Houston sizes: 17-inch, 21-inch, and 25-inch sash balances, common patio door rollers, and standard sash locks. Less common sizes and custom extrusions we order direct, and we show you the part price on the written scope before we order anything.
If you have a Cambria-adjacent window or door that is not opening the way it did a year ago, call (254) 272-5240 for a free estimate. A written price and a covered floor before any work begins, that is where the trust starts.
