CertainTeed Fence Installation: The Houston Owner’s Guide
CertainTeed fence installation in Houston typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 for a complete project, and we stock CertainTeed fencing panels, posts, and gate hardware for same-week scheduling in most cases. The symptom that usually brings a Houston homeowner to this page is a fence that has started to lean after a storm, or a gate that no longer closes square, or a post that has rotted at ground level from our clay-heavy soil holding water against the wood. CertainTeed fencing, by design, resists much of that damage, but even the best materials fail when the post footer was poured too shallow or the gate hardware was never adjusted for Houston’s summer heat expansion. We replace and install CertainTeed fencing in Meyerland, Bellaire, the Heights, Katy, Sugar Land, and most of the greater Houston metro, and every job starts with a written price before a single post hole is dug.
If your CertainTeed fence has failed, you’re probably already researching whether to repair the one section or replace the whole line. This page covers which CertainTeed models we work with, what fails first in Houston’s climate, what a realistic replacement costs, and whether any of it is safe to handle yourself.
Which CertainTeed Models This Applies To

CertainTeed makes three main fence lines that show up in Houston backyards: the Bufftech vinyl privacy and semi-privacy lines, the EverNew vinyl and composite series, and the SimTek molded-stone fence systems. The Bufftech CertaGrain and board-and-batten profiles are the ones we see most often in Houston subdivisions, while SimTek’s simulated rock panels appear on higher-end lots in Memorial and Tanglewood. Each line uses a different post profile and panel-to-post connection, and they are not interchangeable. A Bufftech panel will not seat correctly in a SimTek post, and vice versa.
If you still have the original paperwork, the model name is on the installation guide. If not, look for a small stamped code on the inside face of a panel near the bottom rail; Bufftech panels often carry a four-digit mold date and plant code. Take a photo of that stamp and the panel profile itself, and we can usually match the product from that alone. On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question for CertainTeed specifically: we install genuine CertainTeed parts whenever they’re available, because CertainTeed’s matte finish and color-pigment-through-body color (not a painted cap layer) is hard to match from a third-party supplier. A no-name white vinyl panel on a CertainTeed fence will have a visibly different sheen and will yellow differently under Texas sun, and our crew has seen enough color mismatches that we don’t recommend risking it.

Signs Your CertainTeed Fence Installation Is Failing
- Post lean after a rain. In Houston’s gumbo clay, a post set in a shallow or undersized concrete footer will shift when the soil swells. If the post itself is intact, the failure is almost always below ground in the footer, not the panel.
- Gate drags or won’t latch. CertainTeed gates are heavy, and the hinge-side post takes all of that load. When the post starts to move even a half inch, the gate scrapes the latch or swings open in a north wind. Ignoring this wears the hinge hardware and eventually splits the post.
- Panel sag between posts. CertainTeed panels are designed to span eight feet without a mid-rail sag. If you see a visible dip in the center of a panel, the top rail has lost its seat in the post pocket, usually after our Houston heat cycled the vinyl enough to loosen the original connection.
- White chalk residue on panels. Some surface oxidation is normal over years, but a heavy chalk film in under five years often means the fence was installed with pressure treated screws that leached or the panels were cleaned with a solvent they were never meant to touch. The material itself may still be structurally fine.
- Bottom rail pulling away from the post. This is the classic Houston failure: the bottom rail sits closest to the sprinkler heads and wet lawn clippings, and those conditions accelerate any weakness at the rail-to-post bracket. When the bottom lets go, the panel becomes a sail in hurricane-season wind.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

A full CertainTeed fence installation in Houston typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 depending on linear footage, the specific product line, how much of the old fence has to come out, and whether we’re setting posts in fresh concrete or reusing existing footers. A partial repair, like swapping out three panels and resetting one post, will land at the lower end. A full perimeter replacement with SimTek panels and new gates is at the upper end, sometimes past it if the yard has significant grade changes.
Here is what a typical CertainTeed fence project includes in Houston, written plain:
- Removal and haul-away of the failed fence and posts, included in the price
- Concrete footer work for every post, with our standard 2-4-6 mix, pre-inspection of the hole depth before pour
- Genuine CertainTeed panels and posts where available, matched to your existing color code
- Gate hardware with adjustable hinges so the gate can be re-tensioned seasonally
- Written price before any work begins, with no change orders unless you ask for something different
- A 365-Day Done Right Promise on the finished fence: if it is not done right after the job is complete, we make it right
You will also get a photo of the cleanup before our crew leaves, because with a fence job the mess is often in your flower beds, not inside the house. We pull drop cloths over the beds we’re working near and ask before we move any furniture, planters, or kid toys in the work zone.
DIY or Call Us?
There are a few things a Houston homeowner can safely check without calling us. Look at the post: if the post itself is straight and the panel is just unseated from the pocket, a ladder, a rubber mallet, and fifteen minutes may be enough to reseat it. Check the gate hinges: if they’re just loose, tightening the lag bolts with a socket wrench is safe and often solves the scraping. But if the post is leaning or the bottom rail has pulled out of the bracket, that is a job for a crew with a post-hole digger and concrete experience (which Houston’s clay makes particularly tricky, with drainage and frost line not being the concern so much as soil expansion and irrigation lines). Gate springs and tension hardware are under enough load to hurt you when they let go, and resetting a post in clay that has shifted means digging a new footer, not just straightening the post. For any of that, call us at (254) 272-5240. We’ll give you a written price before we touch anything.
FAQs

A properly installed CertainTeed fence with correctly footered posts should last 25 to 35 years in Houston, though the gate hardware may need adjustment every few years as the soil settles. The failure we see is almost never the panel itself, it’s the post footer or the gate hinge, which is why we pour deeper and wider than code minimum for this soil type. Call (254) 272-5240 for a site assessment of your specific fence.
In most cases, yes: a single failed post or a panel that has separated at the rail can be repaired without replacing the rest of the fence, and that repair often lands well under a full replacement cost. The repair makes sense as long as the panel itself hasn’t cracked or the post hasn’t rotted through. Call (254) 272-5240 and we can tell you over the phone whether repair is worth doing.
A typical Houston backyard of six to eight panels takes two to three days, most of that time spent on footer excavation and concrete setting before panels go in. Gates add a day when we’re building them from scratch. We schedule around your family’s quiet hours where we can, and our crew uses quiet tools during nap and school hours when the job site is close to the house.
We stock the most common Bufftech privacy panels, post caps, and gate hardware on the truck, which covers the majority of Houston repair calls. SimTek and specialty profiles are usually a one to two week order, which we’ll confirm in your written price and timeline before the work starts. Call (254) 272-5240 with your panel stamp photo and we’ll tell you exactly what’s available when.
If you have a CertainTeed fence that’s leaning, sagging, or coming apart at the rails, call (254) 272-5240 to schedule a free estimate. We’ll show up, look at the fence, and hand you a written price before we dig the first hole. A written price and a covered floor before any work begins, that is where the trust starts, and that applies to your flower beds just as much as your living room.
