Atlas Driveway & Pavers: The Houston Owner’s Guide

If you’re looking for Atlas driveway and paver parts in Houston, here’s the direct answer: we stock Atlas-compatible paver systems and we install them, with driveway paver work typically running $7,000 to $18,000 and patio installations falling between $3,500 and $11,000, depending on square footage and the specific Atlas paver line. Most homeowners discover they need parts after Houston’s clay soil shifts through a wet-dry cycle, leaving pavers uneven or a section of the driveway sinking. You’ll see it as a dip near the garage apron, water pooling where it didn’t before, or sand washing out of the joints after a heavy storm.

Elmstead Remodeling Houston is an independent service provider. We are not affiliated with Atlas, but we work with their paver systems regularly and carry the edge restraints, joint sand, and base materials that Atlas installations require to perform well in Gulf Coast conditions.

Which Atlas Models This Applies To

Atlas manufactures paver lines in different thicknesses and face styles, and the part you need depends on which line was installed. The most common Atlas pavers we see in Houston driveways are the 60mm and 80mm interlocking concrete units. The 60mm paver works for pedestrian patios and walkways. An 80mm paver is what a driveway needs to handle vehicle weight. If someone installed 60mm units on a driveway to save money, that’s usually the first thing to fail.

To identify the right Atlas part, flip over a loose paver. Atlas stamps the series name on the bottom of most units, along with the batch number. Write down both. The batch number matters more than people think: Atlas adjusts their color blends between manufacturing runs, and matching a paver from the wrong batch can leave a visible patch in the middle of your driveway. If the stamp is worn off, measure the paver’s thickness and bring a photo to us. We can match the face pattern and chamfer so the repair blends.

On the OEM versus aftermarket question: Atlas joint sand and edge restraints are the parts to use as original. Aftermarket sand is often too fine and washes out of the joints within a Houston rainy season. For base material, a crushed limestone or decomposed granite product from a local Houston supplier is perfectly fine and usually cheaper than anything branded. Where we won’t compromise is the paver unit itself. If it’s an Atlas driveway, we replace with Atlas, even if that means waiting a few extra days for the batch to arrive.

Signs Your Atlas Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

  • Water pooling in low spots that used to drain. This means the base has settled unevenly, usually where Houston’s expansive clay dried out under one section and not another. The fix is pulling the affected area, re-compacting the base, and reinstalling the pavers, not just adding sand on top.
  • Joint sand washing out after every rain. Houston gets roughly 50 inches of rain a year, and fine or poorly compacted sand simply won’t hold. You’ll see sediment fanning out across the driveway after a storm, and the pavers will start to rock underfoot.
  • Edge pavers pulling away from the sidewalk or garden bed. The edge restraint has failed or was never installed. Without a solid edge, the whole field can drift outward over a single wet season in Houston.
  • Cracks running through the paver, not along the joint. That’s a load problem, often from a vehicle parked regularly in the same spot or a base that was never deep enough. A cracked paver can be swapped individually, but if there are several, it points to a base issue that needs addressing.
  • The surface feels uneven underfoot or makes a hollow sound when tapped. A hollow sound means the paver has lost contact with the bedding sand. Water is getting underneath, and each car that rolls over it is working the unit further loose.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

An open living space after a whole-home remodel

For Atlas driveway work in Houston, you’re looking at $7,000 to $18,000 for a full paver driveway installation, and $3,500 to $11,000 for a paver patio. A partial repair, where we pull and reset a settled section, can run much less, but we’ll give you a written number before any work starts so there’s no guesswork after the crew arrives.

What drives the range is square footage, the depth of the base we need to correct, and whether the subgrade has to be rebuilt. Houston’s clay soil means some driveways need more excavation than others, and we won’t know until we open up the area. When we quote the job, we price the parts and labor as separate line items. The Atlas pavers themselves are a fixed cost per square foot. The labor covers demolition, base prep, compaction, sand bedding, paver placement, edge restraint, and joint sand. We include drop cloths and shoe covers inside the house during any interior access, and we photograph the clean-up before we leave. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise applies if the paver work settles or shifts after the job, we come back and make it right.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s an honest split here. You can safely check the edge restraints yourself. Walk the perimeter of your driveway and look for paver edge pieces that have shifted or a plastic restraint that’s popped up from the soil. You can also sweep more joint sand into visible gaps. Those are reasonable weekend tasks that don’t require anything beyond basic tools.

What goes wrong with DIY is the base. Digging out settled pavers and adding a bag of sand on top of a failed base will look fine for about three months, then it will settle again after Houston’s next heavy rain. Proper repair means pulling the pavers, excavating to the right depth, and re-compacting the base in layers. That requires a plate compactor, the right aggregate, and enough experience to know when the subgrade itself is the problem. If you’ve got more than a couple of pavers out of level, call us at (254) 272-5240. We’ll come out, look at it, and give you a written price. No pressure, and the estimate is free.
