CWS Fence Installation: The Houston Owner’s Guide

CWS fence installation in Houston typically runs $3,500 – $9,000 for a complete project, depending on linear footage, soil conditions, and gate hardware. We stock CWS-compatible components and install them the same week we survey the property. Most homeowners discover they need us when a gate starts dragging across the driveway, a post leans after a heavy rain, or a section of pickets separates from the rail after a season of Houston humidity.

The Houston climate is unkind to fence components in specific, predictable ways. Our clay-heavy soil expands and contracts through wet-dry cycles, which loosens post footings faster than in drier markets. Summer sun breaks down vinyl and powder coating on aluminum. And the humidity works on fasteners long before the visible surface shows damage. That is why we carry a full set of CWS-compatible posts, rails, pickets, brackets, and gate kits on the truck when we come out for an estimate. You get a written price before any work starts, and the price we write is the price you pay.

Which CWS Models This Applies To

CWS fence systems fall into two broad families: their residential vinyl privacy line and their aluminum ornamental line. The vinyl line uses a routed post-and-rail system with interlocking pickets, and the aluminum line uses a bracketed rail system with pickets that slide into pre-punched channels. The parts are not interchangeable between the two families, and the gate hardware differs by weight rating. A vinyl gate hinge will not carry an aluminum gate panel.

To identify your CWS fence components, look for a stamped code on the inside face of a post cap or along the top rail near a corner. Most CWS vinyl posts measure 4″x4″ or 5″x5″ in cross-section with a 0.135″ to 0.150″ wall thickness. The aluminum line typically uses 2″x2″ posts with a 0.062″ or 0.080″ wall. If you cannot find a stamp, measure the post cross-section and wall thickness with a caliper. We can match it from those two numbers. For OEM versus aftermarket, CWS-branded components fit their routing patterns exactly, which matters on vinyl where the pickets interlock. Quality aftermarket equivalents work well for posts and brackets on the aluminum line, but we still recommend OEM pickets for the vinyl line because the tongue-and-groove profile is tight enough that generic pickets bind or gap.

One compatibility gotcha worth knowing: CWS changed their vinyl rail profile around 2018. Older fences used a square-bottom rail channel; newer ones use a beveled channel that sheds water. If your fence predates 2018, a newer rail will not seat correctly against the old pickets. We flag this on every estimate because it changes the parts list, and a written parts list is part of the written price.

Signs Your CWS Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Gate drags or sticks on the latch side. This usually means the hinge post has shifted out of plumb due to clay soil movement. The gate panel itself is often fine; the post needs re-setting or a concrete collar.
  • Posts lean after rain. Houston’s expansive clay softens post footings during wet spells. If the post moves more than an inch with hand pressure, the footing has lost its grip. Shimming is temporary; the fix is deeper set with gravel drainage at the base.
  • Pickets pull free of the bottom rail. In CWS vinyl fences, this is almost always a fastener failure. The factory screws are zinc-coated, and after several Houston summers they corrode at the threads and lose bite. We replace them with stainless or coated fasteners during the repair.
  • Aluminum pickets rattle in the rail channel. The pre-punched channels wear slightly over time, especially on the windward side of a fence. The fix is a set of channel spacers or replacement rail sections, not new pickets.
  • White chalky residue on vinyl posts. That is UV degradation starting, not a cleaning problem. On older CWS vinyl it means the surface layer is oxidizing. The post may still have structural life left, but it is the first sign you will eventually replace sun-exposed sections.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A finished basement family room with a media wall and wet bar

CWS fence installation in Houston runs $3,500 – $9,000 for a full replacement. Partial repairs, like a gate post reset or a single section replacement, land between $400 and $1,800 depending on what has failed and how deep the footing sits. Every estimate we write includes the parts, labor, concrete for post footings, gate hardware, and haul-away of the old material. No line item appears later that was not on the written price.

What moves the number is linear footage first, then gate count, then soil access. A fence along a side yard with clean access is quicker to dig than a back fence squeezed between two houses and a mature live oak root system. We walk the line with you before we write anything down, and the price we write is the price we hold to. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it is not done right after the job is complete, we make it right.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself. See if the post moves under hand pressure. Wipe a vinyl rail down and look for cracks at the bracket mounts. Note whether the gate swings freely through its full arc. Those observations help you describe the problem accurately when you call, and they help us bring the right parts on the first trip.

What we would not recommend doing yourself is pulling a post out of Houston clay, mixing concrete in the summer heat, and re-setting it to plumb. Post replacement looks straightforward until the auger hits a root or an old irrigation line, and then it becomes a different afternoon than the one you planned. The same applies to gate hinges under tension: a heavy aluminum gate can pinch hard when the strap releases. If you are not certain, call (254) 272-5240 and we will look at it with you. The estimate is free.
