Bufftech Fence Installation: The Houston Owner’s Guide
Bufftech fence installation in Houston typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 for a full perimeter, depending on linear footage, panel style, and whether you’re replacing an old fence or starting fresh. We stock Bufftech-compatible posts, rails, and panel hardware on the truck, so most repairs and section replacements happen in a single visit. The usual story we hear starts the same way: a gate that drags, a panel that rattles loose in a spring storm, or a post that tilted after last summer’s clay shift.
What most Houston homeowners don’t realize is that Bufftech vinyl fencing is built around a specific post-and-rail system, not generic lumber dimensions. The panels lock into routed posts with a tongue-and-groove fit. When a post leans or a rail cracks, the fix is rarely just swapping one board. It usually means matching the profile, the color batch, and the post depth to the original install. Get one of those wrong and the new section stands out like a patch on a quilt. We measure, match, and write the price before any work starts.
Which Bufftech Models This Applies To

Bufftech has produced several series over the years, and Houston neighborhoods have a mix of all of them: the Classic series in older Kingwood and Clear Lake homes, the Chesterfield and Brookline styles in newer master-planned communities like Bridgeland and Sienna, and the heavier CertaGrain textured panels in custom builds around Memorial and Bellaire. Each series has its own post profile, rail dimensions, and color code stamped on the back of the panel or inside the post cap. If you flip a rail over and look near the end, you’ll usually find the series name molded into the vinyl.
One compatibility gotcha we see regularly: Bufftech changed post-wall thickness on some series over the years, so a panel from a 2015 Chesterfield install won’t always seat cleanly into a 2023 Chesterfield post. That’s not something a homeowner would catch ordering parts online. We check wall thickness and channel depth before ordering a single replacement section. We also carry aftermarket equivalents for common Bufftech profiles where they match the original spec, but for anything under manufacturer warranty, OEM is the right call. We’ll tell you which path makes sense for your fence before you spend a dollar.
Styles & brands we work with

Signs Your Bufftech Fence Installation Is Failing
- Post lean after a dry summer. Houston clay expands and contracts hard with moisture swings. Posts set in shallow concrete or without gravel drainage start tilting within two to four years. You’ll see the panel joints pull apart at the top first.
- Panels rattle or bow in wind. Vinyl expands and contracts with temperature. If a section was cut tight to the post on a cold day, a 100-degree Houston afternoon can bow the panel and pop it out of the channel.
- Gate drags or won’t latch. The hinge post leans, the gate sags, or the latch plate has shifted. Bufftech gate frames are aluminum-reinforced inside the vinyl, so a sag usually means the post, not the gate itself, has moved in the soil.
- Bottom rail cracked near the ground. This is the classic failure point in Houston. Weed trimmers, lawn equipment, and years of sun exposure at the reflected-heat zone near the soil crack the vinyl at its thinnest point.
- Discoloration or chalky surface. Houston UV is brutal. Older Bufftech panels without modern UV inhibitors fade and get brittle. The panel still stands, but it’s lost its flexibility and will crack, not flex, when hit.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Most Bufftech section repairs and partial replacements in Houston fall between $600 and $2,800. A single post replacement runs $300 to $600. A full panel section with both rails runs $500 to $1,200. A complete fence install for a standard Houston lot, which runs 150 to 200 linear feet, lands between $5,000 and $9,000 depending on the Bufftech series, gate count, and whether we’re pulling an old fence first.
Every quote is a written line-item price before any work starts. The quote includes removal and haul-off of the old section, new galvanized or stainless hardware where needed, concrete and gravel for post setting at proper Houston frost and drainage depth, and cleanup that leaves the yard better than we found it. We’re a Cedarwell company, which means the Cedarwell Care Promise applies: shoe covers at the door, drop cloths where we walk through the house, and a photo of the finished cleanup before the crew leaves. The work is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If it’s not done right after we finish, we make it right.

You can safely check a few things yourself: look for the series name stamped on the rail, check whether the post is still plumb, and note whether the concrete collar at the base is cracked. That information helps us quote faster over the phone.
But setting a Bufftech post correctly in Houston soil isn’t a weekend job. The hole needs to reach below the clay movement zone, the post needs gravel at the base for drainage, and the panel has to seat into the channel without binding. If the post is set too shallow or the concrete mixed too wet, the same lean comes back in two years. We’ve pulled plenty of homeowner-set posts where the concrete was just a decorative cone sitting in soft clay. Our crews set posts the same way on every job, and Graham Stein has spent enough years running crews to know exactly where Houston installs go wrong. FAQs

A properly installed Bufftech fence in Houston lasts 20 to 30 years in our experience, with the vinyl panels outlasting the post footings if drainage was done right. The Texas heat and clay movement are the two things that shorten that lifespan, and both are addressable with proper installation depth and gravel drainage at the post base. Call (254) 272-5240 if you want us to look at what’s failing and tell you honestly whether it’s worth repairing.
Small cracks can sometimes be stabilized with the right vinyl adhesive, but Houston sun has usually made the panel too brittle for a durable patch by the time you notice the crack. We’ll tell you if a repair will hold or if you’re just delaying a replacement. The inspection and honest recommendation are free.
Most single-post or single-panel replacements take half a day on site, including removal, new concrete, and cleanup. A full fence installation for a standard Houston lot usually takes two to three working days depending on weather and gate count. We’ll give you the timeline in writing before the first tool comes out of the truck.
We stock common Bufftech-compatible posts, rails, gate hardware, and aftermarket equivalents on the truck for the most common Houston fence series. For color-matched OEM panels in a specific series or older discontinued profiles, we order directly and typically have them within three to five business days. We won’t install an unmatched or off-color section and call it done.
