Boxabl Bathroom Remodeling: The Houston Owner’s Guide
A full Boxabl bathroom remodel in Houston typically runs $9,000 to $28,000 depending on the size of the unit, the condition of the existing plumbing rough-ins, and the fixtures you choose. We stock Kohler, Moen, and Grohe fixtures that fit Boxabl’s compact bathroom footprints, and we can usually start within two to three weeks of your written estimate. Most owners call us after noticing water staining at the base of the shower pan, a soft spot in the floor near the toilet flange, or cracking along the wall panel seams where the Boxabl modules joined during transport.
We’re an independent Houston remodeling contractor, not affiliated with Boxabl, but we’ve worked on enough of these units across Harris County to know exactly how their bathrooms are put together and where they tend to fail first in our climate.
Which Boxabl Models This Applies To

The Casita line is what we see most often in Houston, and that’s where nearly every bathroom remodel request comes from. Boxabl bathrooms come as a pre-assembled wet module: a fiberglass or composite shower enclosure, a wall-hung or compact vanity, and a low-flow toilet, all plumbed through a shared wet wall that runs down one side of the unit. The bathroom footprint in a standard Casita is roughly 5 feet by 8 feet, though we’ve measured variations of an inch or two depending on the production year.
Before we quote anything, we pull the panel off the wet wall access point and check the plumbing rough-in layout. Some early Casita units used a proprietary shower valve spacing that doesn’t match off-the-shelf trim kits from Kohler or Moen, which means you either need an adapter plate or a different valve body. That’s the kind of thing you only learn by being inside the unit with a flashlight and a tape measure. If you have a Boxabl model other than the Casita, we’ll still come out and take a look. The big question is always the same: what’s behind the wall, and does it match standard residential spec.

Signs Your Boxabl Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
- Seam separation at wall panel joints. Boxabl modules are transported and craned into place, and that movement can stress the interior panel seams. Once a seam opens even a fraction of an inch, Houston humidity gets behind it and starts breaking down the substrate.
- Spongy flooring around the toilet flange. The original flooring in many Boxabl bathrooms is a vinyl or laminate product that was not designed for the kind of humidity swings we get in Houston. A wax ring leak or condensation at the flange goes unnoticed until the subfloor starts to give.
- Shower pan flex or pooling water. The pan should drain completely. If you’re standing in a puddle ten minutes after a shower, the pan has lost its slope or the support underneath has settled. Left alone, this turns into a leak through the unit floor.
- Musty smell that doesn’t go away. In a tight Boxabl envelope, bad smells don’t dissipate the way they do in a traditional house. A persistent mustiness is almost always trapped moisture behind the wet wall or under the pan.
- Rust staining or corroded fasteners at the vanity base. The original hardware in some units doesn’t hold up to Houston’s airborne salt and humidity, especially in units placed closer to Galveston Bay. Rusted fasteners mean water is wicking where it shouldn’t be.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a complete Boxabl bathroom remodel in Houston, we tell families to plan on $9,000 to $28,000. That range covers everything from a straightforward shower enclosure swap with new flooring and a vanity, up to a full gut of the wet module with new waterproofing, new plumbing fixtures, a tile shower, and custom cabinetry sized to the Casita’s compact footprint.
| Scope | Typical Houston Installed Price |
|---|---|
| Shower enclosure replacement with new pan and valve trim | $4,500 – $12,000 |
| Full bathroom gut: new waterproofing, tile shower, flooring, vanity, toilet | $9,000 – $28,000 |
| Vanity and countertop replacement only | $800 – $3,000 |
| Tub-to-shower or enclosure conversion | $3,500 – $10,000 |
The price you’re quoted is the price on your contract. That’s not a line, it’s how we’ve run every job since Graham started this company. We use Schluter waterproofing systems behind tile, and the fixtures we install, Kohler, Moen, Grohe, carry their own manufacturer warranties you can register yourself. Our work is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something isn’t right after we’re done, we make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check the caulking at the shower pan, look for visible seam gaps, and take photos of the access panel interior so you know what’s behind the wet wall. What we’d caution against is pulling the shower valve or cutting into the module floor yourself. The Boxabl wet wall is dense, the plumbing runs are tight, and one wrong cut into a structural member or a shared water line turns a $4,500 project into a much bigger one. This is a genuinely bad place to learn by trial and error.
If you’re in Houston and you suspect the bathroom is failing, call us at (254) 272-5240. We’ll send someone out, open the access panel, and give you a written price before anything else happens.
FAQs

In Houston’s humidity, the original bathroom in a Boxabl Casita typically starts showing wear between 5 and 10 years, with the shower pan seam and floor around the toilet being the first points of failure. A remodel done with Schluter waterproofing and quality fixtures should hold up for 20 years or more with normal use. Call (254) 272-5240 if you want us to look at yours in person.
Yes, we regularly replace just a shower enclosure, just the flooring, or just a vanity and countertop in Boxabl units. The deciding factor is what we find behind the wall: if moisture has already spread through the substrate, a partial fix becomes a temporary one. Call (254) 272-5240 and we’ll give you an honest read on what’s actually needed.
Most Boxabl bathroom remodels take 7 to 14 working days from demo to final walkthrough, depending on whether we’re doing a full gut or a targeted replacement. We protect the rest of the unit with drop cloths and shoe covers the entire time, and we sweep up before we leave every day. Call (254) 272-5240 for a timeline specific to your unit.
We stock the common failure points: shower valves, adapter plates, toilet flanges, and drain assemblies that match Boxabl’s compact bathroom layout. If the part is proprietary or discontinued, we’ll tell you before you spend any money and work with you on the best replacement path. Call (254) 272-5240 and we’ll help you figure out exactly what you need.
