ActiveYards Kitchen Remodeling: The Houston Owner’s Guide
If you have ActiveYards cabinets, hardware, or trim in your kitchen and something has failed, we can match the part, price the repair honestly, and install it. A typical ActiveYards kitchen repair or partial replacement in Houston runs $14,000 to $45,000 when it touches multiple cabinets, counters, or structural pieces, with smaller hardware fixes much less. Most owners discover the problem the same way: a door that won’t close, a drawer that grinds open, or a hinge that has sheared at the mounting plate.
Elmstead Remodeling Houston is an independent remodeling contractor. We are not affiliated with ActiveYards, and we say that plainly because it matters when you’re deciding who should touch existing cabinetry. What we do is stock common ActiveYards-compatible hardware on the truck, keep written pricing before any work starts, and photograph the cleanup before the crew leaves. We also carry components for KraftMaid cabinets, Cambria countertops, and Silestone surfaces when a repair crosses brand lines.
Which ActiveYards Models This Applies To

ActiveYards cabinetry spans several product series, and the hardware is not universal across all of them. The compatibility gotcha we see most often in Houston kitchens is hinge plate spacing: older ActiveYards door hinges sit at 35mm cup spacing, while some newer lines moved to 45mm. If you swap in the wrong plate, the door sits proud by a few millimeters and never closes flush, no matter how much you adjust it.
Drawer glides are another point of confusion. ActiveYards uses undermount glides on most full-extension lines, with side-mount on select economy series. The undermount glides require a specific drawer box depth, and homeowners who buy a generic glide online often find the drawer won’t seat because the clip profile is wrong. We identify the part by the label inside the drawer box or on the hinge cup, then confirm measurements before ordering or pulling from our stock.
For ActiveYards specifically, we recommend OEM parts when the piece is visible and the finish has to match: door fronts, drawer faces, and trim all have a painted or thermofoil finish with a batch tint. An aftermarket door face will always be slightly off. For functional hardware that nobody sees, a quality aftermarket equivalent from Blum or Salice or Hafele is usually the better value, and it often carries a longer warranty than the original hinge.

Signs Your ActiveYards Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Cabinet doors that sag or won’t close flush. This is almost always hinge fatigue. Houston’s humidity swells the door edges over years, and the hinge plates loosen in the bore holes. The fix is usually new hinges with the correct cup spacing, not a whole new door.
- Drawers that stick mid-pull or drop on one side. The undermount glide has a plastic clip at the back that locks the drawer to the rail. When that clip cracks, the drawer rides unevenly and eventually drops. The glide itself is often fine; the clip is the failed piece.
- Soft-close mechanisms that slam suddenly. The small damper cylinder inside the hinge or glide loses its fluid over time, especially in Texas heat. A $12 replacement damper fixes what a lot of contractors would quote as a full hardware replacement.
- Loose corner gussets or separated frame joints. ActiveYards frames are joined mechanically, and over time the fasteners can work free. You’ll hear it as a creak when you open the door. Tightening and adding a corner bracket is usually a same-day fix.
- Thermofoil peeling at the door edges. This one is heat and moisture, both of which Houston has in abundance. The thermofoil lifts near the cooktop or dishwasher first. It can’t be re-adhered reliably; the honest repair is a new door face matched to the batch.

Every price we quote in Houston includes parts, labor, the drop cloths and shoe covers, and the end-of-day photo of the cleaned job site. You get the written price before any work starts, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the completed work. If it’s not right, we make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
Some ActiveYards hardware is safe to check yourself. You can open a cabinet door, look at the hinge plate, and read the stamped number. You can pull a drawer to the stop and check whether the clip at the back is cracked. Those are diagnostic steps, not repairs, and they help you sound informed when you call.
Where DIY goes wrong on this kind of work is usually the door alignment and the finish. Hinges need to be installed at the correct bore depth and screw torque, or the door binds. Drawer faces need to be shimmed so the reveal is even top to bottom. And matching a thermofoil batch is not something a weekend project can reliably do. If the part is purely cosmetic and you’ve done cabinet hardware before, go ahead. If it’s load-bearing, finish-critical, or involves a gas line, a cooktop, or electrical for under-cabinet lighting, call us. We work clean, and we’re careful with your kitchen. FAQs

With normal use, ActiveYards cabinet boxes can last 20 to 30 years, but hardware fails earlier. In Houston’s humidity, expect hinges, glides, and soft-close dampers to need replacement in the 7 to 12 year range, sooner near the cooktop and dishwasher where heat and moisture concentrate.
Sometimes, but not usually. If the hinge plate is simply loose, tightening or filling and re-boring the screw hole works. If the hinge arm is bent or the damper has leaked, the part is not repairable and should be replaced with the correct 35mm or 45mm cup. Call (254) 272-5240 and we’ll tell you which yours is.
Hardware-only work is usually a half day. A cabinet section rebuild takes one to two days on site. A partial kitchen refresh with counters runs one to three weeks depending on fabrication lead times. We give you a schedule in writing before the work starts.
We stock common hinge plates, soft-close dampers, drawer glides, and mounting clips for the ActiveYards lines we service most often in Houston. If your part is unusual, we order OEM or equivalent and schedule the install once it arrives. Estimates are free, and we’ll give you an exact quote before anything is ordered.
If you have ActiveYards cabinetry failing in your Houston kitchen, call (254) 272-5240. We’ll identify the part, give you a written price, and put it right. A written price and a covered floor before any work begins, that is where the trust starts.
