Ameristar Windows & Doors: The Houston Owner’s Guide
If you have an Ameristar window or door that won’t lock, seal, slide, or close the way it should, we can match the failed part, bring the replacement, and install it. For most Ameristar hardware swaps in Houston, homeowners pay between $180 and $480 installed per window or door, with the part itself usually running $35 to $160 depending on the component. That price includes the part, the labor, and a written quote before any work starts.
Most people discover the failure on a humid Houston morning. The window that used to glide is suddenly sticking, or the door latch won’t catch. Maybe the lock turns but doesn’t engage. Occasionally it’s a cracked balance shoe that sends the sash sitting crooked in the frame. What starts as a small annoyance becomes a draft, a security gap, or a window that won’t stay up without a prop. That’s the moment to call.
Which Ameristar Models This Applies To

Ameristar builds its windows and doors across several series lines, and the part that fits a 1500 Series double-hung is not always the same part that fits a 3000 Series sliding door. The window label matters. Look in the top left corner of the sash or along the frame edge for an etched or printed number that identifies the series, the glass pack, and sometimes the hardware generation.
The parts that wear first across most Ameristar series are the balance systems on hung windows, the roller assemblies on sliders, and the multi-point lock mechanisms on patio doors. When we source a replacement, we check two things before ordering: the series number from that label, and the width of the balance channel or roller track measured with a caliper. Some Ameristar balances are 5/8 of an inch wide, others 3/4 of an inch. They are not interchangeable. For homeowners, the OEM-versus-aftermarket discussion comes down to this: Ameristar OEM parts preserve exact fit and the manufacturer warranty, while a quality aftermarket equivalent often costs 30 to 40 percent less and holds up fine in Houston’s humidity when it is sized properly. We carry both options and will show you the difference in writing before you decide.

Signs Your Ameristar Windows & Doors Is Failing
- Window won’t stay up, or it drops when released. This is a failed or fatigued balance spring. It happens faster in Houston because heat and humidity accelerate wear on the polymer balance shoes inside the channel.
- Sliding door grinds or takes muscle to move. The roller assemblies are shot. The nylon wheels crack over time, and then the metal housing drags directly on the aluminum track, which gouges it.
- Lock or latch turns but nothing engages. On Ameristar patio doors, this usually points to a broken gear inside the multi-point lock or a bent keeper tab on the frame side. It’s a security issue, not just a convenience one, and it deserves same-week attention.
- Visible condensation or fogging between the glass panes. The insulated glass unit seal has failed. Ameristar’s glass packs are sealed with a desiccant-bearing spacer, and once that seal lets go, the fog becomes permanent. The fix is a replacement IGU, not the whole window.
- Drafts or visible daylight around the sash when closed. The weatherstripping has compressed or the corner keys are pulling apart. Either way, the frame is no longer holding a tight seal, and Houston’s July humidity will find it.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For Ameristar-specific part replacement in Houston, expect to pay between $180 and $480 per window or door, installed. That range assumes standard hardware: a balance pair, a roller set, a lock mechanism, or a weatherseal kit. Here is how the typical job splits out:
- Part cost: $35 to $160 for common Ameristar hardware, more for a full multi-point lock or insulated glass unit
- Labor: $145 to $320 per opening, depending on access and whether the sash has to come out
- Written line-item price: Included, before any work starts, no allowances for surprises after the crew arrives
Every replacement we do carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the part or the installation isn’t right a year from now, we make it right at no charge. Some Ameristar hardware already carries a manufacturer warranty of its own, and we will tell you if your failure is covered before you spend a dollar with us.
DIY or Call Us?
There are a couple of things an owner can safely check. If the window only sticks on one side, you can clean the track and look for obvious debris. If a screw is loose on the operator arm or the keeper, snugging it down is reasonable.
But window balances and multi-point locks are not beginner work. A balance shoe under tension can release suddenly and take a chunk out of drywall or a finger. A patio door with a broken roller can come out of its track if forced, and that’s a hundred pounds of glass on the floor. For Ameristar hardware failures, we recommend a trained tech handle the replacement. We will show you the failed part when it comes out, explain what failed and why, and leave the floor covered the whole time. Call (254) 272-5240 and we will set a time.
FAQs

In Houston, most Ameristar balance springs and roller assemblies last 8 to 15 years depending on exposure, usage frequency, and how much direct sun the window takes on the west side of the house. The humidity here is harder on polymer parts than the heat alone, which is why two identical windows can fail years apart.
Some components can. A lock keeper that has shifted can sometimes be realigned without any new parts at all. But a cracked balance shoe, a stripped lock gear, or a roller with a seized bearing is not repairable, and trying to nurse it along only damages the surrounding frame. Call (254) 272-5240 and we will tell you honestly which camp your window falls into.
Most single-window or single-door hardware swaps take 45 to 90 minutes on site. If we are replacing several parts across multiple windows, we will give you a clear time window before the crew arrives, and we work around nap hours and school pickups when a family asks us to.
We keep common Ameristar balance shoes, roller sets, and lock keepers stocked, and we order series-specific pieces by the label number when a window is outside the usual range. We also source compatible parts for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone cabinetry and countertop hardware when someone has multiple things needing attention. Call (254) 272-5240 with your window label in hand and we will tell you over the phone what is in stock and what takes a few days.
If your Ameristar window or door is not doing its job, we can help you get it matched, priced, and fixed without the guesswork. We are an independent service provider, not a division of or dealer for Ameristar, which means we can be honest about which parts are worth the OEM price and which are not. Call (254) 272-5240 for a free estimate and a written price. A written price and a covered floor before any work begins – that is where the trust starts.
