Why Houston Homeowners Choose Cambria Construction
Elmstead Remodeling Houston provides independent Cambria countertop installation, Cambria repair in Houston, and island construction across the Houston area, from Meyerland to the Energy Corridor. What separates our Cambria work is how we handle the slab itself: fabrication tolerances, seam planning, and the specific ways Cambria quartz behaves in Gulf Coast humidity. We are not an authorized Cambria dealer or service center, and we say that plainly because it matters. We are an independent remodeling contractor who works with Cambria slabs every week, and that field experience is exactly what homeowners need when a seam separates or an overhang chips.

Why Trust Elmstead Remodeling Houston for Your Cambria Construction?

Cambria quartz is a specific material with specific demands. It’s not granite, it’s not marble, and it doesn’t cut, seam, or polish like either one. Our crews work with four Cambria series regularly: Brittanicca, Torquay, Swanbridge, and Portrush. Each has its own vein density, its own tolerance for overhang spans, and its own reaction to aggressive cleaners. That’s not manufacturer-brochure language. That’s what we see on job sites.
Graham Stein, owner of Elmstead Remodeling Houston, learned the trade in Los Angeles and has spent the better part of two decades managing crews before bringing that experience to Houston. Around here, he’s built a reputation for organized job sites and a written scope before a single tool comes out of the truck. A written price and a covered floor before any work begins, that is where the trust starts.
When we install Cambria, we treat the slab as the critical material. We don’t substitute generic quartz and call it equivalent. We don’t patch a crack with hardware-store filler and hope nobody notices. We source factory-matched Cambria slabs when a section needs replacing, and we’re direct about when a slab can be saved and when it can’t. That honesty is part of the Cedarwell Care Promise that governs every project we take on.

Common Cambria Construction Problems We Fix in Houston
We see the same five Cambria failures across Houston kitchens, and most of them trace back to installation shortcuts rather than the material itself. Here’s what actually goes wrong:
- Edge chipping at overhangs. Cambria slabs are dense, but an unsupported overhang wider than 10 to 12 inches will flex under a point load. A kid leaning on the bar edge, a heavy stockpot set down too hard. The chip happens where the stone has no substrate under it. We see this most often on Torquay and Swanbridge islands where the previous installer skipped proper corbel or bracket support.
- Seam separation on large islands. Houston’s expansive clay soils move, and so do the homes built on them. When a 10-foot Brittanicca island is set on a substrate that shifts even an eighth of an inch, the seam opens. Hairline at first, then a shadow line you can feel with a fingernail. This is the single most common Cambria issue we repair in Houston homes built during the 1970s and 80s oil boom.
- Water spotting and dull haze on matte finishes. Cambria’s matte and textured finishes do not like penetrating sealers made for natural stone. When someone applies a granite sealer to a matte Cambria top, the surface can retain residue that clouds under Houston’s humidity. The fix is not another coat. It’s careful removal and re-polishing with quartz-specific compounds.
- Stress cracks from faucet holes drilled too close to the front edge. Cambria requires minimum setbacks for faucet hole drilling. When a hole is drilled fewer than 2 inches from the front edge or too close to a seam, the vibration and the remaining web of stone can’t hold. The crack radiates from the hole, sometimes weeks after the faucet was installed. Portrush, with its finer veining, is particularly sensitive to this.
- Seam lippage from shimmed cabinets. A bowed cabinet run means an installer either floats the slab on shims or forces it down with adhesive. Both compromise the seam over time. We’ve opened up islands where the shims had compressed and the seam had dropped a full sixteenth. The slab wasn’t the problem. The substrate was.
Cambria Parts & Our Repair-vs-Replace Approach

Cambria doesn’t really have mechanical parts the way a faucet or a window does. The slab is the part. So for any repair, we treat the stone itself as the critical material. When a section needs to be replaced or an island extended, we source factory-matched Cambria slabs from the same series, same finish, same production run where possible. That’s the only way to guarantee the veining and tone don’t clash.
For supporting hardware, we’re practical. Sink clips, mounting brackets, color-matched seam adhesives, quartz-rated polishing compounds. These we source from premium aftermarket suppliers whose products are engineered for quartz, not generic stone. The epoxy we use on Cambria seams is designed for the material’s expansion rate, which matters more in Houston than most places because the temperature swings from air-conditioned interiors to humid afternoon heat put real stress on every seam in the house.
Repair versus replace is a straightforward conversation. A chipped edge on an overhang? We can often rebuild it with color-matched acrylic and re-polish the profile. A stress crack running from a faucet hole? That slab is compromised, and we will tell you that directly. We won’t sell a cosmetic patch on a structural crack. Call (254) 272-5240 if you want an honest read on what your Cambria needs.
Our Cambria Service Process – Step by Step
Here’s how a typical Cambria service call works at Elmstead Remodeling Houston, from first phone call to final walkthrough:
- 1
Phone diagnosis and written scope. You describe what you’re seeing, we ask the right questions about the slab series, the seam location, the substrate. Before a crew arrives, you get a written scope and price. Not an estimate that grows later. A written price.
- 2
On-site inspection and measurements. We check the slab with a straightedge and feeler gauges, map the seam lines, measure overhang spans, and inspect the cabinet substrate underneath. On Houston slab foundations, we also note any floor movement that might be contributing to seam stress.
- 3
Repair or installation, with protection first. Drop cloths down, shoe covers on, quiet tools during family rest hours where possible. We isolate the work area, then do the cutting, grinding, or polishing needed with extraction running.
- 4
Verification and clean-up photo. After the work, we test the seams with a straightedge, check polish clarity under daylight and under cabinet lighting, and confirm the slab is level. Then we photograph the clean-up before we leave and send you that photo. It’s part of every job, not an add-on.
- 5
365-Day Done Right Promise. Every Cambria project we complete carries the same post-project commitment as every other Elmstead Remodeling Houston job. If it’s not done right, we make it right.
Cambria Products We Service & Install in Houston

We work with Cambria’s most popular series in Houston kitchens and baths. Brittanicca, with its warm white base and flowing gray veining, is the most requested for full-height backsplashes and waterfall islands. Torquay’s finer, more consistent pattern works well in smaller kitchens where visual noise matters. Swanbridge is a favorite for vanity tops and secondary bathrooms. Portrush, with its softer contrast, suits transitional and modern kitchens.
We don’t stock finished slabs in a warehouse. What we stock is the tooling, adhesives, clips, and polishing compounds specific to Cambria work, which lets us move quickly on repairs without waiting on a shipment. Slab orders for new installations go through local Houston fabricators we trust, with lead times confirmed in writing before the job is scheduled.

AfterOther Brands We Work With
Cambria is a big part of what we do, but it’s not the only surface we install and service through our General Contractor services. We handle KraftMaid and Silestone countertops, Kohler and Toto fixtures, and a full range of kitchen and bathroom remodeling work. If your project mixes Cambria with other brands, we’ll manage the whole scope, not just the quartz.
FAQs – Cambria Construction Service in Houston
Is Elmstead Remodeling Houston authorized by Cambria?
No. We are an independent remodeling contractor with deep field experience installing and repairing Cambria quartz. We are not an authorized dealer, distributor, or service provider, and we make that distinction clear so there is no confusion about warranties or manufacturer relationships. What we offer is direct, hands-on knowledge of how Cambria slabs behave in real Houston kitchens.
Do you use genuine Cambria or OEM parts?
For any slab section that needs replacement, we source factory-matched Cambria slabs from the same series and finish. For supporting hardware like sink clips, brackets, and seam adhesives, we use premium aftermarket components rated specifically for quartz. The slab is the part that matters most, and that’s always genuine Cambria. Call (254) 272-5240 for specific recommendations on your project.
How long does Cambria service take?
Most repairs, including seam rebuilds and edge re-polishing, are completed in one day. Replacing a cracked slab section typically takes five to seven days including fabrication lead time. Full island installations with Cambria tops run seven to ten days from template to final polish. We’ll give you a written timeline before the work begins.
What Cambria models or series do you cover?
We install and repair all major Cambria series, with the most common in Houston being Brittanicca, Torquay, Swanbridge, and Portrush. We also serve homeowners looking for Cambria in Spring and nearby communities. If your slab is from an older or discontinued series, we can often match it through our Houston fabrication partners, though exact matches on discontinued colors depend on current slab availability.
Will service void my Cambria warranty?
Cambria’s warranty covers the material itself, not installation workmanship. Repairs done by an independent contractor do not void the manufacturer’s material warranty, but improper repairs can create issues the warranty won’t cover. That’s why we use quartz-rated materials and follow Cambria’s installation specifications for overhang spans, seam locations, and drill hole setbacks. The written scope you receive before work starts documents exactly what we’re doing and why.
Why does my Cambria countertop have a dull cloudy haze even though I clean it daily?
That haze is almost always sealer residue or hard water mineral build-up, not a defect in the quartz. Cambria is non-porous and never needs sealing. When a penetrating sealer meant for granite is applied to a matte or textured Cambria finish, it can leave a film that catches Houston’s humidity and turns cloudy. The fix is professional removal and re-polishing, not another coat of sealer. Call (254) 272-5240 for an exact assessment and a free estimate.
Can Cambria be repaired if a corner chips off the overhang?
Yes, in most cases. A chipped corner on an unsupported overhang can be rebuilt with color-matched acrylic and re-polished to match the surrounding finish. The repair works best when the chip is clean and the rest of the slab is sound. If the chip is large or the overhang was cut too thin, replacement may be the better long-term answer. We’ll tell you which path makes sense at the inspection.
Why does my new Cambria island have a visible seam when the old granite didn’t?
Granite slabs are often cut from larger raw blocks, while Cambria slabs come in specific sizes. A kitchen island longer than 8 feet typically requires a seam, and the quality of that seam depends on the fabricator’s skill, the color-matched adhesive used, and the flatness of the substrate below. A visible seam usually means one of those three was compromised. We can re-work the seam to reduce its visibility, and if the substrate is the issue, we’ll correct that first.
Does Houston humidity affect Cambria quartz the way it affects granite?
No. Cambria is non-porous, so it won’t absorb humidity or harbor moisture the way granite can. What Houston’s climate does affect is the adhesive and the substrate. High humidity and temperature swings between air-conditioned interiors and outdoor air put stress on seams and the expansion joints below the slab. That’s why we use quartz-specific adhesives with the right flexibility for Gulf Coast conditions.
Why did Cambria crack near my faucet holes when the faucet was installed?
That crack is almost always a fabrication issue. Cambria requires a minimum setback for faucet holes, typically at least 2 inches from the front edge and additional clearance from seams. When holes are drilled too close to the edge, the remaining stone web can’t handle the stress of the faucet installation or daily use, and a crack radiates from the hole. It can take weeks to appear. This is a slab replacement situation in most cases.
What Cambria Work Costs in Houston
Here are the price ranges we quote for Cambria work in Houston and Cambria in Pearland. These are written-price ranges, not estimates that grow after the crew arrives:
| Service | Price Range |
|---|---|
| Cambria countertop installation (per sq ft, material + labor) | $80 – $150 |
| Kitchen island Cambria top replacement | $2500 – $6500 |
| Seam repair / re-polish | $400 – $1200 |
| Full kitchen remodel with Cambria | $14000 – $45000 |
Every quote includes the protection: drop cloths on the floors, shoe covers at the door, and a photo of the clean-up before we leave. We don’t charge for those as add-ons. They’re part of the Cedarwell Care Promise.
One job that stays with us: a 10-foot Portrush island in a Meyerland kitchen. The previous installer had shimmed over a bowed cabinet run, and a hairline crack had formed along the waterfall edge at the seam. We removed the slab, rebuilt the substrate flat to within 1/16 inch, and reset the Cambria with a color-matched acrylic seam. No replacement slab needed, and the homeowner kept her original Portrush top. That’s the kind of fix you only get from someone who has done the work enough times to know what the real problem was.
