CertainTeed Roofing: The Houston Owner’s Guide

If your CertainTeed roof is showing age or damage, the repair or replacement cost in Houston typically runs $400 – $1,800 for spot repairs and $8,000 – $20,000 for a full reroof, with material availability dependent on your shingle line. We stock common CertainTeed-compatible flashing, ridge caps, and underlayment on our trucks, and most repairs can be scheduled within a few days. Houston homeowners usually discover a problem after a storm: a water stain on the ceiling, granules collecting in the gutter, or a shingle in the yard after last night’s wind. You want it identified correctly and priced honestly before you commit. That is exactly how we work. Written price before any work starts, every time.

Which CertainTeed Models This Applies To

A remodeled staircase with wood treads and a slim metal railing

CertainTeed’s roofing lines each have their own fastening requirements, exposure, and warranty profile. The most common in Houston are Landmark and Landmark PRO architectural shingles, followed by XT 25 three-tab, Presidential Shake, and the higher-end Grand Manor and Carriage House lines. Each uses a specific nail pattern and underlayment pairing, and mixing lines on a repair is one of the most frequent mistakes we see. An XT 25 shingle cannot be subbed in on a Landmark roof: the exposure and shadow lines don’t match, and the repair is visible from the street.

Identifying your exact material matters before any patch goes on. The CertainTeed wrapper label has the line name and color code, and the back of each shingle carries a production stamp. If the label is gone, we measure exposure and match color against a manufacturer sample board. On repairs, we use genuine CertainTeed stock where the line is still in production or a documented equivalent where it’s been discontinued. Some older lines, like certain Hatteras color codes, are no longer manufactured; in those cases we quote a full replacement rather than a mismatched patch.

Signs Your CertainTeed Roofing Is Failing

  • Granule loss collecting in gutters or at downspout bases. CertainTeed shingles shed some granules as they cure, but steady accumulation means the asphalt layer is oxidizing and losing its UV shield. You’ll see bare spots that look shiny or darker than surrounding shingles.
  • Curling or lifting shingle edges. Houston heat and humidity work on the adhesive strips faster than most climates. Curled shingles catch wind, and once a corner lifts, the next storm will likely peel it back further.
  • Dark streaks or moss on northern slopes. Algae feeds on the limestone filler in asphalt shingles. It’s not structurally fatal immediately, but it shortens the roof’s life and tells us the surface is holding moisture longer than it should.
  • Water stains on ceilings or walls after heavy rain. The leak is rarely directly above the stain. Water travels along the decking and rafter edges. We trace the path rather than patching the obvious spot, which is how a small leak becomes a huge repair if guessed wrong.
  • Missing or torn shingles after a wind event. Houston’s spring storms routinely test shingles rated for 110 mph. If you find shingles in the yard, the roof has already been compromised, and the underlayment is now the only thing keeping water out.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

An open living space after a whole-home remodel

In Houston, CertainTeed-compatible roof repair runs $400 – $1,800 depending on the number of shingles, whether the underlayment was damaged, and whether any flashing or pipe collars need replacement. A full CertainTeed reroof on a typical single-family home here falls between $8,000 and $20,000, driven by roof square footage, pitch, number of valleys and penetrations, the specific CertainTeed line you select, and whether the old roof has one or two layers to tear off.

Every quote from us includes all material, labor, tear-off and disposal where applicable, underlayment, and the specific CertainTeed product name you are paying for. No allowance numbers. No “we’ll see once we open it up.” The written price covers the work as scoped, and if we find something behind the shingles that changes the job, we stop, show you exactly what changed, and reprice before touching it. Same rule on every project, roof or otherwise.

Houston Roofing Cost Ranges

  • Roof repair (shingles, flashing, pipe collars): $400 – $1,800
  • Roof replacement with CertainTeed Landmark: $8,000 – $20,000
  • Metal roof installation: $15,000 – $40,000
  • Tile roof repair: $600 – $2,500

DIY or Call Us?

A homeowner can safely check gutters for granule buildup, photograph shingles from the ground with a zoom lens, and note the last time the roof was serviced. Getting on an extension ladder to pull back shingles is where DIY ends; steep pitches, wet decking, and Houston afternoon sun make roof work dangerous without proper harness points and tool discipline.

If you see a lifted shingle, don’t seal it with random caulk or roofing cement from the hardware store. Once adhesive cures, any future repair becomes a tear-out job. We’ll take a proper look, match the material, and give you a price you can hold us to. Call (254) 272-5240 and we’ll schedule the inspection.
