Jerith Roofing: The Houston Owner’s Guide

If you have a Jerith roof and a part has failed, we can match it, price it, and install it. Most Jerith roofing repairs in Houston run between $400 and $1,800 depending on the part, the roof pitch, and whether we’re doing a straight swap or addressing water damage underneath. The typical discovery is quiet: a ceiling stain after a hard rain, granules collecting in a gutter, or a shingle tab that lifted during a spring storm and never sat back down. By the time someone calls us, the part has usually been failing for weeks and they just didn’t know where to look.

We’re an independent Houston contractor, not a Jerith affiliate. That matters because we can order OEM Jerith parts or install a quality equivalent without a brand markup, and we’ll tell you which makes sense for your roof. Graham Stein runs the Houston operation, and he tends to spend the first ten minutes of any roofing call on a ladder looking at the actual roof deck rather than guessing from the ground.

Which Jerith Models This Applies To

Jerith roofing products span several product lines, and the part you need depends on which one is on your house. The most common Jerith systems we see in Houston are their architectural asphalt shingle lines and their standing-seam metal panels. The shingle lines have changed slightly over the years: older Jerith shingles from the mid-2000s had a different adhesive strip width than the current production, which means a partial repair using a new bundle sometimes doesn’t seal as aggressively as the original. We tell Houston owners this before ordering because a mismatched seal strip is the number one reason a “fixed” shingle lifts again in the next wind event.

For metal roofs, we need the panel rib height and the seam profile. Jerith standing seam comes in 1.5-inch and 2-inch rib heights depending on series, and the clips are not interchangeable. If you can find the installation label (usually on a sheet inside the garage or in the attic near the roof hatch), it will list the series and color code. If the label is gone, we measure the exposed width and rib profile on-site. For aftermarket parts, we prefer exact-match OEM for anything involving the waterproofing layer: underlayment, sealant, pipe boots, and ridge caps. For cosmetic pieces like screws and trim, a quality equivalent is often indistinguishable in Houston conditions.

Signs Your Jerith Roofing Is Failing

  • Granules in the gutters or at downspout elbows. Asphalt shingles shed granules as the protective layer wears down. A light sprinkle in year one is normal; a visible pile of granules in a gutter after two years points to a defective batch or a section that’s aging faster than the rest. On Jerith shingle roofs we’ve looked at in Katy and Meyerland, this often shows up on the south-facing slope first, where Houston sun does its worst.
  • Shingle tabs that won’t lie flat after a storm. If a tab stays lifted for more than a week after a good Houston wind, the adhesive strip has likely failed. This is the classic Jerith partial-repair scenario. The tab itself may be fine, but if the seal strip has degraded, it will never reseal and every subsequent storm becomes a water entry point.
  • A rippling or waving pattern across a roof plane. This usually means the underlayment has expanded and contracted from Houston’s humidity swings, and the shingles above are moving with it. It shows up most often on low-pitch sections where water moves slower. This is not a cosmetic issue; it means the waterproofing layer beneath the shingles has already begun to fail.
  • Water staining at ceiling corners or around vent pipes. By the time water reaches a ceiling, the roof above has been leaking for a while. On Jerith roofs, pipe boot failures are common because the rubber collar shrinks and cracks in Houston’s heat, especially on west-facing penetrations. The boot is a $30 part, but replacing it before it fails saves thousands in deck repair.
  • Rusted or backed-out fasteners on metal panels. On Jerith standing-seam metal roofs, Houston’s humidity plus occasional coastal salt air accelerates fastener corrosion. You’ll see it as small rust streaks running down from the screw heads. Left alone, the fastener hole widens and the panel eventually loosens enough to rattle in a storm.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A whole-home remodel with the living, dining and kitchen areas opened up

In Houston, roof repair on a Jerith system typically runs $400 to $1,800. The low end covers a small section of shingle replacement or a single pipe boot swap. The higher end covers a larger section of decking that needs replacement, multiple vent boots, or a ridge cap rebuild with new underlayment. For a full Jerith roof replacement, Houston homeowners should budget $8,000 to $20,000, with metal roof installation running $15,000 to $40,000 depending on the roof’s complexity and pitch.

  • Minor repair (single shingle, pipe boot, small flashing): $400 – $800
  • Moderate repair (section of shingles, two or three penetrations): $800 – $1,400
  • Larger repair (deck replacement section, ridge rebuild): $1,400 – $1,800
  • Full Jerith roof replacement (asphalt): $8,000 – $20,000
  • Full Jerith metal roof replacement: $15,000 – $40,000

Every quote we give in Houston includes a written price before any work starts. That price covers the parts, the labor, the disposal, and the drop cloths we lay over landscaping and walkways. We don’t add change orders once the crew is on-site unless we find hidden damage that wasn’t visible from the ground; if we do, we stop, show you photos or bring you up to look, and give you a new written number before we touch anything. Our workmanship is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something isn’t right after the job, we make it right.

DIY or Call Us?

Some Jerith issues you can safely check yourself without getting on the roof: granule buildup in gutters, lifted tabs visible from the ground, water stains on ceilings, rust streaks on metal panels. Those observations help us diagnose faster. What you should not do is climb onto a Houston roof in the summer and attempt a repair. Shingle adhesive requires specific temperature conditions to seal properly, and a roof surface in August can reach 160 degrees. Falls from ladders and roofs are a leading cause of home injury, and a steep pitch on a two-story Meyerland home is not the place to learn. If your Jerith roof is leaking, the risk is in the waiting, not in the calling.

FAQs

How long does Jerith roofing last in Houston?

A properly installed Jerith asphalt shingle roof in Houston lasts 15 to 25 years depending on sun exposure, slope, and ventilation; Jerith metal roofing commonly lasts 40-plus years with occasional fastener and sealant maintenance. Houston’s heat, humidity, and occasional hail shorten the lifespan compared to cooler climates. If your roof is past the 15-year mark and you’re seeing granules or lifted tabs, it’s worth an inspection. Call (254) 272-5240 and we’ll give you an honest read.

Can a Jerith roof be repaired instead of replaced?

Yes, most Jerith roofs can be repaired if the damage is localized and the surrounding materials are still in good condition. Shingle sections, pipe boots, flashing, and individual metal panels are all repairable. A full replacement is only needed when the underlying deck is compromised or the roof has reached the end of its serviceable life. We’ll show you exactly what we found before recommending either path.

How long does a Jerith roof repair take?

Most Jerith repairs we handle in Houston are completed in half a day to a full day, including setup, repair, and cleanup. Larger repairs involving deck replacement or multiple penetrations can run two days. We schedule around your family’s routines where possible, and quiet tools come out during nap and school hours if that matters to you.

Do you stock Jerith parts or do I need to order them?

We stock the most common Jerith-compatible parts on the truck: pipe boots, flashing, sealant, shingle bundles in common Houston colors, and metal roof clips. For less common Jerith series or specific color codes, we order OEM parts and typically have them within three to five business days. If you’re not sure which series you have, we’ll identify it on site before ordering anything. Call (254) 272-5240 for an exact quote on the part you need.
