PGT Fence Installation: The Houston Owner’s Guide
PGT fence installation in Houston typically runs $3,500 – $9,000 for a full perimeter job, and we stock the PGT-compatible hardware needed for most common fence styles. Homeowners usually call us after a storm has pushed a section off-plumb, or when they notice a gate dragging in the Houston clay that shifts seasonally. We walk the fence line, measure what is actually failing, and give you a written price before any work starts.
Most PGT fence work in our area is not a full replacement. It is a matter of matching the right post, the right gate hinge, the right aluminum spec to what is already out there. We carry a working stock of PGT-compatible posts, post caps, gate frames, brackets, and panel rails on the truck so a first visit can often mean a working gate again that afternoon.
Which PGT Models This Applies To

Houston homes with PGT fencing are nearly always running one of three configurations: aluminum panel fencing in the 4 ft to 6 ft range, vinyl privacy panel fencing, or a mix of the two with a wide driveway gate. PGT does not sell a single “fence” line, so the model on your paperwork will often say PGT aluminum gate, PGT vinyl panel, or reference the distributor that supplied the sections rather than the factory floor.
The practical way to identify what you have is the post cap. Most PGT aluminum posts take a cap with a square or pyramid profile, and the post spacing is usually set at 6 ft on center. Vinyl PGT-style panels run a thicker wall than the big-box equivalents, and the rails slide into post channels with a specific depth. When we match a part, we measure the post interior channel width and the rail profile. That tell us within five minutes if an OEM PGT part or a quality aftermarket equivalent is the right call. Elmstead Remodeling Houston is an independent service provider and not affiliated with PGT, but we work with both OEM and direct-match equivalents every week. The decision comes down to what is still in production and what has changed spec since your original install.

Signs Your PGT Fence Installation Is Failing
- Gate drags on the latch side. This is rarely a hinge issue. In Houston, the clay soil expands and contracts seasonally, and the post the gate hangs on shifts. The fix is resetting or sleeving the post, not lifting the gate panel.
- Panels rattle against the posts. PGT-style aluminum rails fit into a channel with a spring clip or screw set. When the clip corrodes in our humidity, the panel loses tension and rattles. The clip is a $3 part; ignoring it for a year can oval the post channel.
- White vinyl panels have a gray or green haze at the bottom. That is organic growth in the waterline splash zone. It does not compromise the panel structurally, but it means water is and holding against the rail. That leads to rail end rot on lower rails.
- Post caps pop loose after a storm. A single popped cap is wind. Multiple popped caps show the posts have shifted and are no longer plumb, which changes the geometry the cap friction fits against.
- The gate closes by itself, or will not stay open. A self-closing gate on a kid’s play area is useful. On a driveway gate, a self-closing swing means the post holding the hinges is out of level. Gravity is doing the closing.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a typical Houston residential lot, PGT fence installation lands between $3,500 and $9,000. A smaller backyard with 70 ft to 90 ft of aluminum panel and one walk gate will sit at the low end. A 200 ft perimeter with a wide driveway gate, post replacement, and vinyl panels will push toward the top.
Your written price, before any tools come out of the truck, includes the parts, the labor, the post removal and reset, gate hinge and latch hardware, the drop cloths and shoe covers for any access through the house, and a photo of the clean-up when we are done. What moves the number is almost always post condition. If the posts are set in concrete and still plumb, this is a panel-and-hardware job with no surprises. If the posts have shifted and need new footers, the scope changes, but it is all in the written price before we start. Every project carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it is not done right, we make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
If you have a single popped post cap, a loose gate latch screw, or a fence section that has slid a half-inch, you can safely address those with a rubber mallet, a screwdriver, and a level. Worth checking yourself before anyone makes the drive out.
What we would not recommend is resetting a concrete-set post by hand, especially near a gas line or an irrigation main. And any gate that weighs more than you do is being handled under tension. A falling gate panel can injure a person or a pet. If the post is moving, or the gate is beyond a simple latch adjustment, call us. FAQs

A PGT aluminum fence installed on properly set posts will last 20 to 25 years in Houston, though gate hardware typically shows wear somewhere around year 8 to 10. Vinyl panels in direct afternoon sun will age faster on the west-facing side. Plan for post inspection after any summer where the ground cracked open wider than a quarter inch.
In most cases, yes, we can repair or replace a single section, a single gate, or a single post without redoing the entire fence line. The only exception is when multiple adjacent posts have shifted and the rail channels have ovaled past a safe tolerance. Then the straight-line geometry of the fence requires a longer run to be reset. Call (254) 272-5240 and we will walk the line with you.
A standard Houston residential fence with existing sound posts can usually be installed in 2 to 3 days, including gate hardware and clean-up. If posts need new concrete footers, add a day for the concrete to reach set strength before panels go back on. We will give you the schedule in writing before we start.
Our trucks carry the common PGT-compatible parts: post caps, gate hinges, latches, rail clips, and corner brackets for aluminum and vinyl panel systems. Unusual panel colors or older-series vinyl profiles sometimes need a 3 to 5 day order window. We will tell you on the first call whether it is a stock-and-same-week job or an order job. Estimates are free.
