AfterCabinet Installation & Refacing in Houston, TX
Cabinets & Countertops installation and refacing in Houston typically costs between $4,500 and $18,000 depending on kitchen size, cabinet material, and whether you’re refacing existing boxes or installing entirely new cabinetry. Refacing alone usually lands in the $4,500 – $9,500 range for an average Houston kitchen, while full installation with new KraftMaid or custom cabinetry runs $9,000 – $18,000. At Elmstead Remodeling Houston, every cabinet project starts with a written price before any work begins, and every crew member wears shoe covers and lays drop cloths before a single cabinet door comes off its hinges. Call (254) 272-5240 if you want a free estimate for your specific kitchen.
If you’re planning a broader update, our Kitchen Remodeling team handles cabinet work as part of full renovations too. Many Houston families come to us for cabinets first and realize the surrounding surfaces need attention. We’ll tell you honestly if your project is cabinets-only or if there’s more to consider.
We’re a Cedarwell company, which means the Cedarwell Care Promise governs every hour we’re in your home: shoe covers at the door, drop cloths on the floors, a photo of the clean-up before the crew leaves, quiet tools during your children’s sleep hours where possible, and pet-safe product choices wherever there is an option. Graham Stein leads our Houston team, and he holds every cabinet project to that standard.

When You Need Cabinet Installation & Refacing
Houston homes face specific conditions that affect cabinetry. Humidity cycles from the Gulf, foundation movement in neighborhoods like Meyerland and the Heights, and the daily wear of family life all show up in cabinet doors, drawer slides, and face frames. Here’s what tells us a cabinet project is worth doing:
- Doors are warped or no longer close flush. Houston’s summer humidity swells wood and MDF. If your cabinet doors stick in July and gap in January, refacing with new doors and veneers solves the fit while keeping your existing boxes.
- Drawer slides grind or bind. Soft-close slides from brands like Blum or Salice are a meaningful upgrade during refacing, and they hold up better to kids pulling drawers open with sticky hands.
- You want a new look without demolition. Refacing keeps the cabinet boxes and replaces doors, drawer fronts, and hardware. It’s faster and less disruptive than a full tear-out, which matters when a family is living in the house while we work.
- The cabinet boxes are still solid but the finish is dated. Honey-oak cabinets from the 1990s are common across Houston. If the boxes are level and the frames are intact, refacing with new doors in a modern finish changes the kitchen without the cost of full installation.
- Your layout works but storage doesn’t. We can install pull-out shelves, roll-out trays, and drawer organizers inside existing or new cabinets. In kitchens where kids help unload the dishwasher, pull-outs at kid height are a real improvement.
- You’re doing a Kitchen Remodeling in Houston project and the cabinets are the anchor. Counters, backsplash, and fixtures all land against cabinets. Getting the cabinet plan right first means the rest of the project follows cleanly.
Our Cabinet Installation & Refacing Process
Our process is built around a simple idea: you should know what’s happening, what it costs, and what we’ll do to leave your home clean before we ever start. Here’s how a cabinet project with Elmstead Remodeling Houston works:
- Phone call and walkthrough. You call (254) 272-5240 and a live person answers, 24/7. We schedule a walkthrough at a time that works around your family’s schedule, not ours. Graham or a senior project lead measures the space, checks the cabinet boxes, and talks through what you want.
- Written price and plan. Before any work starts, you get a written price. It names the cabinet brands, door styles, hardware, and labor. If we’re refacing, it specifies what stays and what’s replaced. No estimates that grow after the crew arrives.
- Material and brand selection. You choose from cabinet lines we trust, including KraftMaid for semi-custom work. We’ll tell you the manufacturer warranty that travels with your cabinets. If you want counters to match, we work with Cambria, Silestone, and Caesarstone surfaces so the joint between cabinet and counter is handled by one crew.
- Installation day(s). Our background-checked, uniformed technicians arrive with shoe covers, drop cloths, and a plan. We protect the floor from the door to the kitchen, ask before moving anything, and use quiet tools during nap and school hours where possible. If you have pets, we’ll ask where they’re most comfortable and work around them.
- Clean-up and photo. Before the crew leaves, we sweep, vacuum, and take a photo of the cleaned space. You receive that photo as part of the project record. It’s included, not an add-on.
- 365-Day Done Right Promise. If something isn’t done right after the job is complete, we make it right. That promise is stamped on every cabinet project we do in Houston.

Cabinet Installation & Refacing Pricing in Houston
Cabinet work ranges widely because kitchen sizes and material choices vary so much. Here’s what we see most often in Houston, based on typical kitchen layouts from Katy to Kingwood:
| Project Type | Typical Range in Houston | What’s Included |
|---|---|---|
| Refacing (average 10×10 kitchen) | $4,500 – $9,500 | New doors, drawer fronts, veneer or laminate on boxes, new hardware, soft-close hinges |
| Refacing (larger kitchen, 12×14+) | $8,000 – $14,000 | Same as above plus more doors, taller uppers, pantry wrap |
| Full installation with KraftMaid semi-custom | $10,000 – $18,000 | New boxes, doors, drawer bases, soft-close everything, crown molding, installation |
| Partial installation (island or pantry only) | $3,000 – $7,500 | New cabinet runs for one zone, matched to existing where possible |
What moves the price in Houston:
- Cabinet quality and brand. KraftMaid semi-custom costs more than stock cabinets but carries a manufacturer warranty you can verify independently. We’ll give you the line item either way.
- Box condition. If your existing boxes are water-damaged from a past leak, refacing won’t work. We’ll tell you before you spend a dollar, and give you a written price for replacement instead.
- Hardware and soft-close upgrades. Soft-close slides and hinges add maybe 10-15% to a refacing project. Most Houston families with young kids say it’s worth it.
- Access to the kitchen. Second-story kitchens with narrow stairwells in older Heights bungalows take longer. We account for that in the written price, not a surprise later.
- What’s around the cabinets. If counters, backsplash, or plumbing need to be touched to complete the cabinet work, that’s scoped into the price up front.
We give free estimates. Call (254) 272-5240 and we’ll come measure, walk the kitchen with you, and hand you a written number. You’ll have it in hand before we leave, not in an email three days later.
Why Families in Houston Choose Elmstead Remodeling for Cabinets
We know Houston families. We know that a kitchen renovation happens while a toddler is napping, a dog is pacing, and a teenager is doing homework at the table. That’s why our approach to cabinet installation and refacing is built around the Cedarwell Care Promise:
- Written price before work starts. Always included, never optional. The number we hand you is the number on the final invoice, unless you change the scope.
- Drop cloths and shoe covers on every visit. Included on every job, not charged as an add-on. We protect the floor from the front door to the kitchen and back.
- Photo of the clean-up before the crew leaves. We take it, we send it to you, and it’s part of the project record. You’ll see what we left behind.
- Live person answers the phone 24/7. No voicemail, no bot, no waiting until Monday. If you have a question at 8pm about the door style, a person answers.
- Named-brand materials. Cabinets from KraftMaid and Wellborn, countertops from Cambria and Silestone, fixtures from Kohler and Moen. Products with manufacturer warranties you can verify independently.
- Quiet tools during rest hours. Where possible, we run the quieter tools when your kids are sleeping. It’s not always possible, but it’s always considered.
- Pet-safe product choices where available. If there’s a low-VOC adhesive or a less noxious sealant option, we’ll use it. We’ll also ask where your pets prefer to be so we’re not tripping over the dog and the dog isn’t stressed.
Graham Stein has led our Houston team through hundreds of cabinet projects in neighborhoods across the city: West University, Bellaire, Memorial, Spring Branch, Oak Forest, the Heights, Pearland, Sugar Land, and Cypress. The approach doesn’t change by ZIP code. Clean floors, clear prices, and a crew that asks before touching anything.
Cabinet Installation vs. Refacing: Which Makes Sense for Your Houston Kitchen?
This is the question most families ask us first, and the answer depends on two things: the condition of your cabinet boxes and whether you want to change the Kitchen Design & Layout.
Refacing makes sense when: your cabinet boxes are level, solid, and well-built; you like your current layout; you want a new color or door style without the cost of a full install; you want to be done in a week or less. Refacing replaces doors, drawer fronts, and hardware, and covers the visible box surfaces with veneer or laminate. The kitchen stays functional longer because we’re not tearing out the structure.
Full installation makes sense when: your boxes have water damage, your layout doesn’t work, you want deeper drawers or a different cabinet configuration, or you’re doing a full kitchen remodel where the old cabinets don’t fit the new plan. Full installation with KraftMaid semi-custom cabinets gives you new everything: boxes, doors, drawer bases, and hardware. It costs more and takes longer, but it’s the right call when the bones are bad or the layout is wrong.
If you’re not sure, call us. We’ll tell you what we see and give you a written price for both paths so you can decide with numbers in hand. It’s (254) 272-5240.
What to Expect During Installation or Refacing
Here’s what a typical cabinet project feels like at your house, week by week.
Refacing projects usually take 3 to 5 working days. The crew keeps the kitchen workable for most of that time. We’ll set up a cutting station in the garage or outside if weather allows, so sawdust stays out of the house. Drawer fronts come off first, then doors, then the veneer work on the boxes. New doors and hardware go on last. We’ll ask where you want the temporary “kitchen” zone set up, especially if you have kids who need lunch at noon.
Full installation projects usually take 5 to 10 working days, depending on kitchen size and whether counters or plumbing are involved. Your kitchen will be out of commission for part of that time. We’ll plan the sequence so the refrigerator stays plugged in as long as possible, and we’ll tell you in advance which days you’ll want to plan meals differently. We’ll lay drop cloths in the path from door to kitchen and protect the counter surfaces we’re not touching.
Both project types end with the same thing: a cleaned kitchen, a photo of the clean-up sent to you, and a walkthrough with Graham or the project lead to make sure every door opens, every drawer slides, and every hinge is adjusted to your liking.
The Materials and Brands We Use
We name our materials because we want you to know exactly what you’re paying for. For cabinet installation, we work with KraftMaid and Wellborn. KraftMaid is semi-custom, American-made, and carries a limited lifetime warranty on the cabinet boxes and hinges. Wellborn offers a wide range of door styles and finishes. Both brands let you verify the warranty independently, which matters if something fails five years from now and you want to know who stands behind it.
For counters that sit on those cabinets, we install Cambria and Silestone quartz surfaces. Both are non-porous, which is a real benefit in Houston kitchens where juice cups and dog bowls leave rings. For fixtures, Kohler and Moen are our go-to lines. We also install James Hardie siding on exterior-facing projects, but that’s for a different conversation.
If you want to research the brands before we walk through, you can. That’s the point of naming them.
FAQs – Cabinet Installation & Refacing
How much does cabinet refacing cost in Houston?
Cabinet refacing in Houston typically costs $4,500 – $9,500 for an average 10×10 kitchen, and $8,000 – $14,000 for larger kitchens with more doors and taller uppers. The final number depends on door style, hardware, soft-close upgrades, and whether your boxes need repair work first. Call (254) 272-5240 for a written quote for your specific kitchen. Estimates are free.
Is it cheaper to reface or replace cabinets?
Refacing is almost always cheaper than full replacement, typically 40-60% less than installing new KraftMaid cabinetry of comparable quality. Refacing keeps the existing boxes and replaces doors, drawer fronts, and hardware. Replacement costs more because you’re paying for new boxes, new installation, and often new plumbing or counter work. However, if your boxes are damaged or your layout doesn’t work, replacement is the better long-term value.
Can you install or reface cabinets the same week I call?
We can often schedule a walkthrough within 24-48 hours of your call, and refacing projects can sometimes start within a week depending on material availability. KraftMaid and Wellborn lead times vary by door style and finish, and we’ll give you a realistic start date in your written price. Call (254) 272-5240 and we’ll check current availability for your style choices.
Will my family be able to use the kitchen during the project?
During refacing, yes, partially. The crew sets up a cutting station outside or in the garage, and we sequence the work so the kitchen remains usable most days. During full installation, the kitchen will be down for several days. We’ll tell you exactly which days before we start, and we’ll plan around meal hours and nap times where possible.
